While trees can disappear into the mundanity of our daily lives, when we slow down to observe, they remain as mysterious and inspirational as an old-growth, enchanted forest. Using the immediacy of materials like ballpoint, graphite, and ink, students in this course will learn how to observe and draw the earth’s oldest and possibly most complex living organism.
We will use insights into the history of tree drawing, from da Vinci and Rembrandt to contemporary artists tackling the subject, combined with practical tools and a keen eye for observation, will provide students with a greater ability to capture a subject at once monumental and intricately detailed.
