This is part 1 of 3 in a real-time progression of the owl painting master copy. These videos do not have audio, but you can watch the full progression from the pencil sketch through to the final painting.
Part 1 (this video): using graphite to work out the drawing and measure the proportions of the bird
Part 2: beginning to paint using light layers of walnut ink to establish the lights and darks
Part 3: use progressively more opaque walnut ink and india ink for the darks, and white gouache for the highlights. Move from the general to the more specific, adding more details as you go along.
